Hello,
Please help a rookie. I'm trying to setup a Linux box, SUSE 8.0, so that
it can accept inbound FTP. Right now, I can only "get" from that box.
I am actually trying to setup this enviroment to help me train on
Linux/UNIX.
You should update that sucker *RIGHT NOW* to get anything remotely
maintainable. I'd suggest SuSE 9.2, with the vsftpd server.

Then you can use YaST to enable and manipulate the FTP server.

I don't see that happening - the machine itself is 1000 miles away from me
and I cannot ask the people local to the machine to do THAT much work. Can I
do anything to maintain this on the original 8.0 install ?

Ooof. Where is the machine? Maybe I know someone nearby who can lend a hand.
Bootable CD's or network mirrors can be used to do such updates.

But YaST has modules for managing FTP. The FTP server is seriously out of
date, but you can try to use the YaST tool to find packages with the word
FTP in the name, such as yast2-ftp-server or something like that.hoht
